Tragically, Project Recover lost a longtime member and Board of Directors member, Flip Colmer, on August 20, 2019.

  • 14 field missions to nine countries around the globe.
  • Located and documented nine American aircraft associated with as many as 33 missing Americans.
  • Partnership with the Air Force Heritage Flight Foundation, Project Recover launched a formal multi-disciplinary education program for more than 120 high school students aboard the USS Midway Museum.

  • 26 cases in eight countries in the Pacific and European theaters, as well as the Persian Gulf.
  • The documentation of six aircraft crash sites and a section of a U.S. Destroyer associated with 70 MIAs.
  • Project Recover is honored to have been invited and to have participated in three interment ceremonies of three repatriated World War II service members who were formerly Missing in Action.

  • Project Recover located the underwater wreck of an F6F Hellcat piloted by Lt. William Q. Punnell who was MIA. During the same mission, Project Recover located the TBM Avenger associated with missing service members including ARM2c Albert P. Rybarczyk and AOM2c Ora H. Sharninghouse, Jr.
  • Each of the three service members was accounted for during the summer of 2017.
  • Project Recover was honored to attend the funeral of ARM2c Albert ‘Bud’ Rybarczyk in Stevensville, Michigan.

  • Documents a mission in Santa Monica Bay in November 2016. The team was searching for the only known WASP (Women Air Force Services Pilot) missing in action.
  • Represents the first year of formal operations in partnership as Project Recover.
  • Broadened focus from searching for MIAs in Palau to a worldwide search.
  • Searches spanned more than 20 case files and were associated with more than 100 Missing in Action service members.
